Don’t Prefer Social Media over SEO

What is the most important thing that a blogger must keep in mind in order to do to promote his content and optimize it? The answer that I usually get is that the blogger must remain active on social networking websites. In order to remain active on social networking websites, the blogger needs to give as much time as possible to his or her fan pages on these websites. He needs to tweet a lot, he needs to post statuses on Facebook and be active with communities on Google+. However, the main problem is that at times, bloggers don’t understand the fact that they must be active on these sites but not at the expense of ignoring SEO. It is true that at times, this attention is diverted to these websites mainly because of the fact that these people ignore SEO which is a huge mistake. Why? Well, I will be sharing a few points that will make you see exactly why it is not a good idea to compromise on your SEO for social networking sites.

How long will the social media site last?

Remember how we were all super excited about Orkut at one point in time? And let’s not forget MySpace. Well, where are they now? Where is all that hype? Why do we no longer use them? it is true that Facebook has managed to stay in the limelight for a very long period of time now, however, the question is, how long will this last? For all you know, it may end tomorrow. That is the problem with social networking websites. You don’t know how long anything will last for.

Do you own anything on these sites?

You make your Facebook page, you promote your business; you own the page. That’s what you think right? Well, think again. You own nothing on these sites. Every page you think you own is actually owned by Mark Zuckerberg. Yes, that may be shocking but it is true. Facebook can shut down your page for good if you do anything that may be in your business’s interest but violates Facebook terms and conditions.

Distraction

You check your Facebook account, you have a number of invitations from various pages. You open a page. Just when you start finding out about the business, your friend messages you. You start chatting. Your friend sends you a link to something else, you open that link. You pay no attention to the page you had opened. Social networking sites have a lot of disturbance; I don’t think I need to say more.

Then Why Search Engines?

Search Engines are playing a vital role in our life. You don’t need to go anywhere else to search for something. Everything you want is a click away, go to search engine, type anything you would like to find, like to learn, like to understand is present their. Search engines do their best to provide you with the most accurate, informative, valuable and precise information so you don’t have to waste your time anywhere else. You always have the opportunity to come up and to compete with other businesses. Its all on us, the more we focus to provide better the more search engines will prefer you over others. So keep improving your online businesses, blogs, websites in order to enjoy in SERPs.
Surely social networking sites are a great asset for the time being, but keep SEO on your top list of priorities. If you agree with with the statement then feel free to share it with your network.
